OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Oak Grove is currently identifying a site for a new water tower to support future growth in the northern part of the city.

“If there was any major development off of Good Hope Cemetery Road, we couldn’t supply the required water pressure if we had any major growth or development over there,” said Brian Ahart, Public Works Director.

According to Ahart, the city has been discussing the water project for the last couple of years and made the decision to proceed with it last fall. The city currently has three water towers, two of which are operational, so adding this water tower to the existing infrastructure will enhance water supply to the northern part of the city.

The estimated cost of the project is $9,000,000. Ahart says the city is actively searching for funding and grants to cover the biggest portion of the project.

Recently, Oak Grove has checked out a property they own behind the Shell Gas Station on Walter Garrett Lane, but the drilling did not yield a desired result. Ahart told Christian County Now they either have to modify the area to support a water tank or find a different location.

The city is also in the process of upgrading a water line from Carter Road out to the 115 intersection where an eight-inch line sits.

“We are going to upgrade that to a 16-inch line,” said Ahart. “We are also going to put in a line from Carter Road to the end of Grant, which would give us a secondary water feed into our system.”
