HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As the City of Oak Grove’s solid waste contract expires in early December, officials have not come to an agreement on a permanent replacement trash service for residents.

During the Dec. 2 Oak Grove City Council meeting, councilmembers voted to reject the bid from Stinky Pinky Inc. who was in line to become the city’s primary residential solid waste service. The city currently utilizes GFL Environmental as a trash provider for residents. The agreement with Stinky Pinky was previously approved by the council, with the decision to reject the bid coming after discussion during an executive session in December.

“Both Waste Pro and the City attempted to reach a good-faith agreement for solid waste services but were unable to come to a mutual agreement,” Mayor Oliver told Christian County Now.

The city’s current contract for trash services expires on Dec. 7. In response, the mayor signed an executive order to declare a state of emergency. This was done since the city requires immediate and extraordinary measures to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens through the continued collection of solid waste.

Until a new agreement is made, the city will enter into a temporary contract with GFL to ensure continued collection of trash in the city. This State of Emergency will remain in effect until a new franchise for solid waste collection is in place. Mayor Oliver said the city is looking to rebid out the franchise in the near future.
