OAK GROVE, KY – This holiday season, national nonprofit Operation Homefront is delivering comfort and joy to hundreds of local military families. As part of their annual Holiday Meals for Military program, the organization will distribute grocery gift cards to provide all the essentials for preparing a traditional holiday meal to 275 pre-registered military service members and their families in Oak Grove on Friday, Dec. 5.
As costs continue to climb and budgets are stretched thin, Operation Homefront’s Critical Financial Assistance program, which provides short-term help for military families facing unexpected financial hardship, saw a 57% jump in requests for food-related support from military families in the past year.
Through the Holiday Meals for Military program, and thanks to the generous support of partners including Asbury Automotive Group, BODYARMOR Sports Drink, Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, Dollar Tree, Food Lion Feeds, Northrop Grumman, Procter & Gamble and Town House, meals will be distributed at dozens of events nationwide, serving more than 12,000 families. While food insecurity among the ranks remains stubbornly around 25%, Operation Homefront is working to ensure military families don’t have to choose between paying a bill and creating those special holiday memories that are so often made around the dinner table.
This week’s Holiday Meals for Military event in Oak Grove is also made possible through local supporters including Black Rifle Coffee Company, Walmart, Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits, Vietnam Vets of America, Zoeller Pump Company, and Beam Suntory.
