HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A burn ban is currently in place for the city of Oak Grove and Pembroke to keep citizens safe due to recent dry conditions.

Oak Grove Mayor Jackie Oliver released an executive order on Sept. 5 issuing a burn ban for the city until further notice. The order explains that recent weather conditions and environmental factors have increased the risk for wildfires within city limits. Pembroke issued a burn ban on Sept. 3, specifying that residents in the city limits are not permitted to burn anything outdoors until further notice.

Burn bans prohibit outdoor open flames including bonfires, campfires, the burning of trash or debris, and fireworks. According to the Oak Grove executive order, local fire departments and authorities have been directed to enforce the ban. Exemptions may be granted only in cases of essential activities deemed safe and necessary.

The National Weather Service is predicting a 20% chance of rain on Friday, with dry conditions continuing into next week.
