PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – As storms moved through Christian County Sunday morning, strong winds and rain caused damage throughout Pembroke, Kentucky.

Fire Chief Nicholas Belair with the Pembroke Fire Department says crews are hard at work trying to clear trees that have fallen on roads and houses. He estimates it will take a few days to properly clear the area, but roads should be opened up by the end of the day. The majority of the city is without power, but they are hopeful it will be restored soon.

Belair explained that heavy rain has flooded several roads, making them impassable, “We recommend if you don’t need to come to Pembroke, if everyone could avoid the area,” he said. “We wanted to thank Brian Diamond, and Randy Graham for the up to the minute weather updates as we have crews out working to get trees and debris removed.”

Pembroke Road and other main roads in the city have been reopened as of 2:00 p.m. Sunday, but Belair warns there is still a lot of water in the area. Motorists should be cautious of crews working in the area.
