HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Dogs and cats of all ages, breeds, sizes are waiting to be adopted at the Christian County Animal Shelter. The shelter is at 2935 Russellville Road, and the phone number is 270-887-4175. Business hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 10:30-4 p.m. and the shelter is closed for lunch from 12:30-1 p.m.

Here are two animals the shelter recommends this week for adoption:

Meet Coconut! She is a 2-year-old Lab mix who was brought in as a stray and not reclaimed. She has been a repeat offender here at the shelter and is always a pleasure to see her! She is open with everyone she meets and does great with children of all ages. She does like to pull when on a leash, but she is getting much better. She does well with other dogs although we do not know how she feels about cats. We also don’t know if she is housebroken or not, but she can definitely learn if needed! Coconut would make a wonderful companion and is ready for her fur-ever home! She is HEARTWORM NEGATIVE and weighs about 57 pounds. She has also been SPAYED AND BROUGHT CURRENT ON VACCINES through the shelter’s GET EM DONE program. Her adoption fee is $28

Gigi, 2-and-a-half-year-old grey tabby. (Contributed)

Gigi is back! She is a 2-and-a-half-year-old SPAYED grey tabby who was released to the shelter because they were moving and couldn’t keep her. She was adopted and brought back because she would not let their older cat eat. She is a very sweet girl but can get overstimulated here at the shelter. She does well being handled by the staff for short periods. Gigi is CAT SELECTIVE. She DOES NOT LIKE DOGS but she does great with kiddos of all ages! Gigi does not use the litter box at all, so she would be a PHENOMENAL BARN CAT! She is also CURRENT ON RABIES! Gigi is FLV/FIV/HW NEGATIVE as of 09/30/2023 as well. She is a NO CHARGE adoption.

More animals and information can be found on the Christian County Animal Shelter’s Facebook.

The Christian County Animal Shelter recommends three additional pets this week.

Haven 12:10 Animal Sanctuary

Oh my, the most beautiful girl is living at Haven! Meet Lyric… This gorgeous affectionate playful little girl is approximately 2 years old with sky blue eyes, beautiful coloring (shiny white with milk chocolate brown and buff checks and swirls), spayed and UTD on all vaccinations and prevention. She is mostly deaf (she can hear some high pitch tones we THINK) but that doesn’t bother her – or us – AT ALL. She had integrated in with the other cats and the dogs very, very well, although she doesn’t like dogs to be too pushy (and we think that’s fair). Brought to the local shelter in a sack she had recovered from her respiratory infection and is doing great. She loves people and playing. Curious and fun, Lyric is a joy. She’s young and cuddly and will occasionally play a little rough but takes gentle correction. She’s looking for a family to love and who will protect and love her!

Moving Mountains for Mastiffs

Meet Mischief (Missy) and Storm! These beautiful girls are 10-month-old Bandogs. They do fine with kids and strangers. They have never been around cats. Currently, they are working on their manners, separation anxiety, and training. They are extremely smart and pick things up very quickly. They are undoubtedly guard dogs by nature and are very alert and vocal when they see unusual things or people. They do not need to be adopted together and would likely do best adopted into separate homes. They both need to build up their confidence. If you would like to adopt from Moving Mountain for Mastiffs, please complete an adoption application at https://form.jotform.us/82034796384162. We do require approved adopters to come to the rescue to meet the dogs.
