HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Police Chief Jason Newby shared statistics and accomplishments for the department for 2024 during the first Committee of the Whole meeting of the year on Jan. 23.
46,745 calls for service were made to police, with a total of 2,674 arrests through Dec. 31.
- Traffic arrests: 366
- Criminal arrests: 964
- Juvenile arrests: 78
- Warrants served: 1,300
Drugs, collisions, and goals
Newby shared that in 2024, HPD seized 1.21 pounds of fentanyl, which is capable of producing 274,423.4 lethal doses, as well as an additional 393 pills. He added that fentanyl is by far the worst problem the department is dealing with right now. 8.97 pounds of meth, 138.16 pounds of marijuana, and 1.08 pounds of cocaine were also taken off the streets by officers.
In the city there were 1,035 vehicle collisions, 299 of which had injuries. Seventh Street and North Drive had 32 collisions, which makes it the intersection with the most collisions.
According to Newby, overall criminal reports have decreased. In 2022 there were 2,362 criminal reports processed, which has since dropped to 2,261 in 2023, and 1,897 in 2024.
