PEMBROKE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – After days of hard work, all roads are open in the city of Pembroke after debris has been cleared from this past weekend’s storms. Power is slowly being returned to the city and several crews are spread out cutting down trees, collecting limbs, and repairing power lines.
The community is working hard to clear debris from their yards and neighborhoods, according to Pembroke Fire Chief Nicholas Belair. Along Pembroke Road, multiple power lines remain in the front yards of homes, with some driveways being blocked by the wires near the Westbrooke Farms neighborhood.
“Everyone has stayed in high spirts, glad to help our neighbors and overall, very fortunate we have had no deaths or injuries throughout,” Belair told Christian County Now.
Pembroke Mayor Jeanette Aldridge said the cleanup is going to take time, but things are definitely improving. She credits citizens, the fire department, and county representatives for supporting the city the past few days. From residents opening their doors to neighbors, to church’s providing outreach, Aldridge is proud to see the compassion extended.
The Christian County Fiscal Court shared that debris pick up will begin on Monday since they have secured permits staged burn sites. Belair specified that residents can place natural vegetation such as trees and limbs by the road to be picked up. Other materials left out will not be collected at this time. After this first round of pickups, they will begin collecting other debris like tree stumps.
Anyone in Pembroke needing further assistance can contact the fire department at 270-475-4144, and they will do their best to help where they can.
