HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) –Pennyrile Electric is still working to restore power to thousands of members across the region, with areas of northern Christian County experiencing multiple days with no electricity. As of Tuesday morning, around 1,000 members are still effected by outages, with crews continuing to work through the day.
“Pennyrile Electric crews, contractors, and several Cumberland Electric crews have been battling the colder temperatures and icy conditions to restore power to members as quickly as possible,” said a shared statement from Pennyrile Electric. “While we are making progress, we want members who are still without power, especially those who use medical devices, elderly, or homes with small children, to prepare for outages to possibly extend into Wednesday.”
Overnight temperatures remained frigid into Tuesday with more ice solidified on tree limbs. This extra weight causes limbs to break and potentially cause hazardous conditions on roads along with accumulated ice on bridges and small roads. Due to this risk, Christian County Public Schools moved to remote learning for Jan. 7, using NTI Day #2.
Pennyrile Electric users are encouraged to report outages by calling or texting 270-886-2555.
