OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A property in Oak Grove is considered being zoned from industrial to commercial, aimed at facilitating the development of a large travel center.
“If this venture goes through, it will bring approximately 200 jobs and a much-needed revenue stream to continue to improve Oak Grove,” said Oak Grove Council Member Janet Edwards.

Although the project is in its beginning stages, a public hearing took place at the Hopkinsville Municipal Center Monday night to discuss the rezoning of a parcel of land from industrial to a commercial establishment. This type of hearing is usually requested by the landowner to prepare the property for a buyer, according to Edwards.
She emphasized that the potential buyer has not been announced yet, but they specifically want to purchase the land to build a travel center. The land in question is on the other side of Interstate 24 just off of 115.
Edwards says she is excited about the growth of Oak Grove and shares that city council has been working on a multi-year plan to guide the development of the city.
“Some of the things we need are a paid fire department, increased police force, improved infrastructure and sidewalks. Some of the quality of life things we want are more restaurants, parks, a splash pad, an event center with things like a batting cage, putt putt golf and go carts. With a travel center along I-24, we can capitalize on the out of state travel and invest that money back into the local economy,” Edwards said.
