HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A recently retired firefighter was acknowledged for his recent retirement during a Hopkinsville City Council meeting on Jan. 20. Captain Curtis Nightingale was presented with a plaque, and was praised for his 22 years of service to the Hopkinsville Fire Department.

“It’s hard to see him leave,” said Fire Chief Steve Futrell during the meeting. He spoke about Nightingale’s achievements throughout the years within the department, specifically citing an incident that he feels defined his career. In 2010 during an emergency response, Nightingale and his brother rescued a fellow firefighter and successfully performed lifesaving CPR to revive the individual.

“We love Curtis, his whole career he’s exemplified professionalism and his commitment to safety,” said Futrell. He went on the praise the legacy of the entire Nightingale family and their impact on the department. The plaque referenced his hard work and dedication to the city, thanking him for his years of service.

HFD also announced five recent promotions during the city council meeting, acknowledging Lieutenant Bryce Bicksler, Lewis Leavell, Lane Thomas, and Brandon Isbell along with Captain Kyle Graves.
