HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville’s HES/energnet Night Christmas Parade and tree lighting is just days away with the holiday festivities kicking off at 5:15 p.m. on Dec. 15. John T. Brame, Jr. is this year’s Grand Marshal for the parade. He is a Hopkinsville native and Christian County High School graduate who served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, including a tour in Vietnam.
The parade route will begin at Glass Avenue and move south on Main Street to 14th Street. Due to the planned route, there will be road closures leading up to the start of the parade. According to Hopkinsville Parks and Recreation, no parking will be available on Main Street from Glass Avenue to 14th Street between 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Only parade participants will be permitted on Glass Avenue from during that time.
Glass Avenue will be blocked from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., as well as all side streets on Glass Avenue from North Drive to Main Street. All side streets on Main Street from Glass Avenue to 14th Street will be blocked from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Tree lighting
After the parade at 7 p.m., there will be a tree lighting at Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville.
The celebration will have holiday music, comments from local leaders, and a countdown to turn the lights on the large tree. The lights at Little River Park will also be on for participants to enjoy.
Weather forecast
Currently, the forecast for Saturday Dec. 14 is showing a high of 50 degrees, with wind gusts as high as 18 mph. That night, showers are likely with mostly cloudy skies and lows in the 40s, according to the National Weather Service.
The parade will occur rain or shine.
