HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Residents around Skyline drive may have noticed a change recently as the former Roller Dome Fun Plex underwent demolition.

The Roller Dome was a staple in the community for decades and was previously owned by Kentucky State Representative Walker Thomas since 1986. In 2017 he leased the building to Shana McCombs, who left the business after a year.

Plans for demolition began after the City of Hopkinsville accepted a bid for the work in September. The winning bid, at $93,277, was awarded to Surface and Stormwater Utility.

Since the building sits right next to the South Fork Little River, it has been determined to be within a floodplain and floodway. This makes it unsuitable for any future construction, according to Steven Bourne, manager at Surface and Stormwater. “No other structure will be built on the property,” Bourne told Christian County Now.

Once the demolition is complete, the property will remain an empty lot.
