HOPKINSVILLE, TN – October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sanctuary, Inc. is inviting communities throughout the Pennyrile region to come together to raise awareness, support survivors, and take a stand against domestic violence.

In October, Sanctuary, Inc. will host and participate in several activities designed to bring awareness to domestic violence and encourage community involvement.

DVAM and Sanctuary, Inc. Activities & Events Include:

  • Wear Purple Wednesdays: Community members are encouraged to wear purple ties, dresses, slacks, ribbons and other purple clothing each Wednesday in October to show support for ending domestic violence.
  • Domestic Violence Awareness Month Proclamations: Proclamations will be read at local government meetings, including Princeton City Council on October 5, Hopkinsville City Council and Cadiz City Council on October 6, and Hopkins County Fiscal Court on October 20.
  • “Speak My Name” Presentations: Presentations will be setup at each of the scheduled proclamations, honoring Kentuckians who tragically lost their lives to intimate partner violence in the past year.
  • Online Pet Costume Contest: From October 12–26, community members can dress up their favorite furry friends and participate in an online costume contest. The contest raises awareness of animals and families impacted by domestic violence and supports Sanctuary’s Pet Protection Program, which helps keep pets safe while survivors seek shelter and safety. A prize basket will be donated by You Dirty Dog. Contest details and entry information are available at www.wkdzradio.com.
    Love Shouldn’t Be Scary” T-shirts: Halloween-edition t-shirts are available for purchase September 21 through October 10 for $22 each at Bella Marie Boutique in Hopkinsville. Proceeds benefit Sanctuary, Inc. and the agency’s ongoing capital campaign efforts.
