HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – After a man was severely injured during an accident with a school bus Tuesday afternoon, Hopkinsville Police determined that the bus driver was at fault.

Just after 2:30 p.m. on March 31, Hopkinsville Fire/EMS responded to the area of Freedom Elementary School on North Drive when a pickup truck collided with a school bus. The truck travelled over 150 feet before coming to rest in the school parking lot during the crash. The driver of the truck was transported via helicopter with emergent internal injuries.

An HPD citation report says video footage of the accident shows that the 70-year-old Hopkinsville man who was driving the bus failed to yield to right of way traffic before pulling into the northbound lane. This caused the pickup truck to strike the front passenger side of the bus.

The bus was occupied at the time of the crash, but no injuries were reported by students or the bus driver.

The bus driver received a citation for two traffic violations including failing to yield right of way and careless driving. Payment will be required for the citations, with no arrest or court date.
