HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A Chicago man suspected of driving under the influence and found to be in possession of marijuana is being charged after a wreck killed a man in Hopkinsville.
The crash occurred on just after 6 p.m. on March 7 near the intersection of Fort Campbell Boulevard and Lovers Lane. A news release from Kentucky State Police says a semi-truck and trailer operated by Gerasimos Livieratos, 36, of Chicago, Illinois, was traveling southbound and attempted to make a U-turn when a northbound sedan, operated by Bernice Franklin, 33, of Clarksville, Tennessee, collided with the trailer of the semi.
Payton Rodgers, spokesperson with Hopkinsville Fire/EMS told Christian County Now that the driver was entrapped underneath the trailer of the truck. Franklin was pronounced deceased after life saving measures. Next of kin has been notified.
Livieratos was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance (1st offense, aggravated circumstance), and vehicular homicide when under the influence of drugs/substance along with other traffic violations. He was transported to the Christian County Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being led by Trooper Nathan Pedigo U/789 and Trooper Ethan Garrison U/785 of the Kentucky State Police.
