OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Smoke filled the sky after a semi-truck caught fire on Interstate 24 in Oak Grove this afternoon.

The semi-truck was on the I-24 eastbound off-ramp onto the Pennyrile Parkway northbound when authorities arrived. The tractor was fully engulfed in fire with extension to the trailer, which was empty according to Oak Grove Fire Chief Bill Johnson.

“Based on information provided by the driver and the extent of the damage, the fire appears to have started in the rear wheels,” Johnson said.

Fort Campbell and Pembroke Fire Departments provided mutual aid for water supply and in a couple of hours the fire and highway cleanup was clear. The I-24 eastbound ramp was closed but it has reopened.

There were no injuries but the tractor is a total loss as well as the trailer.
