GOLDEN POND, KY – Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area upcoming events during the month of September. 

Enjoy Blacksmithing at the Homeplace on Saturday, September 9 at 10 a.m. It’s hammer time at the 1850s farm. We will be demonstrating historical methods of blacksmithing on a bellows operated charcoal forge. Learn about metallurgy during the mid-1800’s and explore how a farmer would repair and replace broken and damaged tools. For more information 270-924-2007.

Visit the Homeplace for the Bounty of Butterflies on Saturday, September 16 at 1:30-2:45 p.m. September is one of the most diverse times to see butterflies in LBL. Learn your butterflies from our naturalists in our pollinator gardens.

Enjoy a Roast Duck recipe at the Homeplace on Saturday, September 16 at 1:30- 2 p.m. While duck meat isn’t as common in the average person’s diet today, people in the 1850s kept and ate ducks regularly in order to supplement their diets with both their eggs and their meat. Come join LBL while an 1850s duck recipe is cooked up.

Visit the Nature Station for an Animals of the Forest Puppet Show on Saturday, September 23 at 1:30- 2 p.m. Come join our animal puppet pals for an interactive show and an up-close encounter with a live animal. We will be learning about habitats, adaptations, and plant life cycles.

The Nature Station will be hosting a Tree-mendous Hike on Saturday, September 30 at 1:30- 2 p.m. Land Between the Lakes has a large diversity of trees! Learn some simple tips and techniques on how to identify the trees in your own backyard while you join a naturalist on a one-mile guided hike. Program is free to LBL visitors.

The Homeplace will be Making Soap on Saturday, September 30 at 1:30- 3 p.m. In the 1850s, they would make their own soap regularly in order to keep their dishes and themselves clean. Come join us today while we make some lye soap out on the farm.

Join The Campers Fair Open House on Friday, September 22 at 12 noon- 6p.m., and Saturday from 8-6 p.m., for a variety of craft booths, RVs, food, golf carts and more. More information can be found on their website.
