HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Hopkinsville City Council has just over a month to appoint a new councilmember to Ward 8 due to a recent vacancy.

In a memorandum released by the City of Hopkinsville to city councilmembers on March 10, it was disclosed that Councilmember Seth Meek has resigned from his position in Ward 8 effective March 15. Meek was serving his first term on the council and was not on the ballot for the 2026 election.

According to the city, it is now up to the council to fill the vacancy before April 14, based on Resolution 02-2008. Within the next few days, potential candidates interested in taking over the seat are able to file an application. City councilmembers will vote in open session to select a replacement.

Here is a timeline for procedure moving forward as provided by the City of Hopkinsville.

  • March 17– Interested applicants can file an application with the City Clerk’s office within 10 days.
  • March 27– Applications must be received by the City Clerk’s office by 4:30 p.m. local time.
  • March 30– A copy of all applications received by the City Clerk will be emailed to City Council.
  • April 7– The vacancy will be placed on the agenda. Applicants will be interviewed and Council will vote (in open session) to select a replacement. The newly selected councilperson will be sworn in and take their seat with Council.
