HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man and woman were arrested Monday evening after fleeing from police in a stolen car. Hopkinsville Police worked with the Kentucky State Police during a miles long pursuit that ended in Hopkins County.
Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department first located the stolen vehicle at Hucks gas station on East Ninth Street. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop while the vehicle was at the pump, but the suspects fled at a high rate of speed onto the Pennyrile Parkway ramp, according to a police report.
The vehicle hit speeds over 100 mph, and the driver attempted to ram several approaching police cruisers that were trying to slow down the vehicle. Several police cruisers were damaged during the pursuit. Kentucky State Police officers were able to use spike strips to deflate the suspects tires and stop the pursuit at exit 30 in Hopkins County.
The male driver and female passenger failed to comply with police, assaulting several officers during the arrest and injuring themselves, says a police report from HPD.
Suspected crack and several glass pipes were found, and the vin number for the vehicle had been defaced. The police report shows both suspects are from Fox Lake, Illinois. The driver is facing 14 charges including assault, wanton endangerment, and receiving stolen property. The passenger is facing eight charges including fleeing from police and assault.
