HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The Pennyroyal Arts Council invites the community to enjoy a free evening of live theatre under the stars with Shakespeare in the Park: The Tempest, performed by Kentucky Shakespeare on Wednesday, Sept. 17 from 6- 7 p.m. at the Hopkinsville Greenway Amphitheater.
The Hopkinsville Greenway Amphitheater, an open-air venue located beside the Hopkinsville-Christian County Library, provides the perfect setting for this timeless production. Audience members are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and friends to enjoy this unforgettable performance of one of Shakespeare’s greatest plays.
This free public event is presented as part of the Pennyroyal Arts Council’s smARTS program, which brings
high-quality arts programming to the community and provides unique opportunities for cultural engagement outside the traditional theatre setting.
Written by William Shakespeare, The Tempest tells the story of Prospero, the exiled Duke of Milan, who uses his powers of magic to shipwreck his usurping brother and enemies on a remote island. The play weaves together themes of revenge, forgiveness, power, and colonialism, with Prospero’s magic often interpreted as a metaphor for the theater itself. Considered one of Shakespeare’s final works, The Tempest is regarded as his farewell to the stage, blending drama, romance, and spectacle.
In the event of rain, the performance will be on stage at the Alhambra Theatre, 307 N. Main St, Hopkinsville. For more information, visit www.pennyroyalarts.org.
