HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Hopkinsville Police received a call about a shoplifter at Food Giant on North Main Street on Wednesday night around 8 p.m. After an investigation by police, it was determined that the suspect was attempting to take around $63 worth of merchandise from the store.

Employees attempted to physically stop the man which caused a struggle. The man then produced a knife and cut an employee on the arm.

The employees responded by releasing the man who then used a fire extinguisher to break the glass on a locked door and fled the scene. However, police eventually caught up to the suspect and were able to detain him at gun point, says a police report. While being arrested, the man refused to identify himself.

He is being charged with robbery, assault, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.
