HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The STEM Classroom Grant Program from the Tennessee Valley Authority awarded $1.5 million to schools in various states, with two Christian County schools receiving funding. The money helps fund educators to develop science, technology, engineering, and math education projects across the Tennessee Valley region.

The program received 647 grant applications this year, and 342 were selected. In Christian County, Heritage Christian Academy and Sinking Fork Elementary School were both chosen to receive grant money.

Adam May with TVA told Christian County Now that HCA received $1,500 which will be used to purchase materials for various STEM projects for a second-grade classroom. These materials will allow students to engage more directly with STEM related problem-solving activities. “Providing project-based learning tools such as building materials allows students to work together to complete various engineering and design projects,” added May.

Sinking Fork Elementary School received $3,500 for the Panthers Garden of Growth. This aims to educate elementary students on plant biology, environmental science, and sustainable agriculture. May said, “Incorporating a greenhouse into the science curriculum will deepen their connection to nature, enhance their understanding of life science concepts using hands-on experiences, and develop a sense of agriculture.”
