HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Severe storms coming through Christian County left a path of damage, with extensive power outages, downed trees, and debris impacting the community. At 10 p.m. on May 16, Hopkinsville Fire Department was inundated with calls for service, saying that virtually every HFD apparatus was responding to storm related incidents.

Late Friday night, right after the storm swept through the area, Pennyrile Electric reported that outages were affecting over 14,000 members across the region. Early Saturday morning, they confirmed that over 8,000 members have had power restored, but crews still have a lot more work ahead.

A statement from HES says that crews worked through the night to restore power to around 3,500. Work will continue to repair eight broken electric poles, and numerous lines that were torn down by trees. Residents can report visible damage to power lines directly to HES at (270) 887-4200.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will have crews out assessing state roads, and begin clearing debris that is impacting drivers.

This damage comes after hours of Tornado Warnings and a Tornado Watch for Christian County. Tornado survey teams with the National Weather Service in Paducah will visit nearby Todd and Trigg County to determine the extent of the storm.
