HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A man is facing several charges, including drug trafficking, after running from law enforcement during a traffic stop.
On June 2, deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving on Hugh Hunter Road. The 48-year-old suspect Michael Mimms was observed making an improper turn.
A news release from CCSO says the vehicle came to a stop in the roadway, and the driver showed signs of impairment. After failing field sobriety tests, the suspect resisted arrest and fled on foot, discarding a container into nearby grass. He was quickly apprehended after a Taser deployment.
The container was found to contain two baggies of suspected crack cocaine and powdered cocaine totaling approximately 4 grams. A large amount of cash was also recovered, according to CCSO.
The man was medically cleared and consented to a blood test. Mimms was transported to the Christian County Jail. He faces the following charges:
- Improper Turning
- Failure to Yield to Emergency Vehicle
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence (1st Offense)
- Fleeing or Evading Police (2nd Degree, on foot)
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree (2nd or > offense, <4g Cocaine)
- Trafficking in Controlled Substance, 1st Degree (1st offense, Schedule I & II)
- Resisting Arrest
