HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight, Jr. is excited to announce the return of one of the city’s most prestigious programs – the Mayor’s Youth Council. This year’s class will represent the eighth of its kind with applications opening today. All interested juniors and seniors in Christian County are encouraged to apply whether students attend public, private, or home schools.

Mayor Knight noted, “I encourage our young future leaders not to miss this unique opportunity.” Serving on the council affords young people the opportunity to address issues that affect the community and offer youth-centered solutions and ideas to local government. The program also provides a platform for students to enhance leadership skills and unlock a spirit of volunteerism.

Applicants must:

  • Be entering Juniors or Seniors by the fall of 2025
  • Be available and committed to attending and participating in each session

About the program

Initiated in the fall of 2015, the Mayor’s Youth Council is a student advisory group also known as MYC. High school students that attend school in Christian County, whether public, private, or homeschooled, are invited to serve on the Youth Council or to get involved with Council-led projects.

Through the group, the city aims to provide a voice for area teens, afford them the opportunity to address issues that affect our community, and offer them a platform to suggest ideas and enhance their leadership and civic skills. The program also allows participants to have interactive experiences with Hopkinsville City Council, department heads, supervisors, and community leaders. MYC’s mission is to engage our youth and to equip, inspire, and mobilize them to take action that betters the community.
