HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A new storefront offering a variety of baked goods, takeaway meal items, catering and market favorites has opened its doors in Hopkinsville. Locally owned by Misty Green and Lori Joyce, The Rusty Pot offers made from scratch favorites in an inviting atmosphere.

“The vision came from the rusty pot that was left on the side porch of my house on Cox Mill Road,” Joyce told Christian County Now, sharing that she discovered that this style of pot was often used to bake bread, beans and other classic recipes. “After doing some research, I thought I would try my hand at sourdough.”

After she perfected some recipes in a modern Dutch oven, she began selling loaves from her home. A chance encounter with one of her regulars, Green, planted the seed to expand into a brick-and-mortar location. The two women restored the storefront on Fort Campbell Boulevard themselves by cleaning, planning out the details, installing tile, and soliciting family to create custom pieces like their salvaged wood checkout counter. Green added, “It’s been an adventure.”

Grand opening, what you will find at The Rusty Pot

Their ribbon cutting took place with the Christian County Chamber of Commerce on Jan. 13, where dozens of people packed the aromatic store to get the first glimpses of their hard work. Even during the opening rush, every customer was greeted with a smile and some classic southern charm.

For the grand opening their sourdough stock immediately sold out, with the cases also stocked with macadamia nut cookies, pecan pie, hash brown crusted quiche, and maple muffins. On the other side of the store, they plan on keeping the fridge section loaded with takeaway items that are ready to heat and serve with favorites like double stuffed potatoes, and a variety of soups. These items will likely be on rotation, with different options available daily ranging anywhere from pulled pork and chicken salad to Tex-Mex and stromboli.

“There isn’t anything like this around, we call it ‘elevating Hopkinsville’ because we want it, we drive to Clarksville for it, we drive to Nashville for it so why not have something here local that people can come and enjoy?” said Joyce. “We wanted something that is very comforting, inviting and unique with options that you don’t really see.”

While day to day baked items will always include staples like sourdough, muffins, cookies and pies, they plan on changing up the flavors seasonally. They both stressed that all of their recipes are authentic and are made with quality ingredients. They also have a retail area with unique offerings like honey, cheese, dried pasta, and snacks.
