HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville Christian County is partnering with local basketball legend Tommy Wade Jr. to renovate the gym at the club.

“This project presented itself and reflects my basketball career as a player, coach, and mentor,” said Wade. The Wade Family Gymnasium project will include new scoreboards, new bleachers, new sideline chairs, a new video system, and most importantly a new wooden gym floor that will be named after Wade’s parents: Tom and Wanda.

“I chose this project as a testament to the values, sacrifices, and unconditional love my parents instilled in me,” Wade said. “The Wade Family Gymnasium and Tom & Wanda Court is a perfect way to honor my parents and provide a gift that will live on in their names.”

The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-June with a dedication ceremony set for Aug. 4.

“We are excited and honored to have Tommy return home and gift us this amazing sports facility,” said Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville Executive Director Terrence Davis. “The Wade Family Gymnasium will provide endless hours of entertainment and recreation for Boys & Girls Club kids for years to come.”

The Wade Family Gymnasium will also house a small memorial to Hopkinsville High School. Wade was a star basketball player at HHS in the early seventies, and the original home of Hopkinsville High School was Walnut Street Park where the club is located today.

“We want to memorialize and preserve the rich history of Hopkinsville High School,” Davis said. “For the past 111 years, 1600 Walnut Street has served youth in Hopkinsville. The Wade Family Gymnasium will help the Boys & Girls Club continue this tradition for years to come.”
