HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Christian County has had another record-breaking year for tourism, both in visitor spending and economic impact. Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel, local businesses, various festivals, and efforts from Hopkinsville and Oak Grove Tourism and city officials has led to visitors spending a total of $243 million in 2024.
This data from a Kentucky Department of Tourism report reveals this all-time high, which exceeds last year’s previous record. The report also ranks Christian County seventh out of 120 counties in Kentucky for visitor spending
“Figures like these solidify the hard work and dedication of Visit Hopkinsville,” said Visit Hopkinsville Executive Director Amy Rodgers. “As these numbers clearly show, it is more than just visitors; it’s about the sustainability, recognition, and vitality it brings to our entire community.”
A news release from Oak Grove Tourism says the tourism industry in Christian County has also created over 1,812 new jobs countywide, ranging from hospitality and retail positions to roles in event management and outdoor recreation services. This has helped generate $47.5 million in labor income and $16.3 million in state and local taxes. This substantial tax revenue is reinvested into community projects, infrastructure improvements, and promotional initiatives to sustain this growth.
“We are incredibly proud of the growth we’ve seen in our tourism sector,” said Oak Grove Tourism Executive Director Traci Cunningham. “Tourism here isn’t just growing, it’s thriving. Oak Grove community’s charm and strategic investments are drawing more visitors than ever, and I can’t wait to keep building this bright future.”
Cunningham also credits the excitement around Oak Grove Racing, Gaming & Hotel, MB Rolland Distillery, local restaurants, festivals, and military connections to the county’s economic growth.
