HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Around 8 p.m. on Oct. 30, a truck was involved in a single vehicle wreck that left a woman injured after encountering a deer on the roadway.
The accident occurred on Greenville Road near Bluff Springs Road, according to a collision report from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office. While traveling southbound, a deer ran across the roadway, causing the driver to swerve and run off the road and flip. The portion of the roadway was unlit during the time of the accident, as noted in the collision report.
Severe damage was done to the truck, and it was rested on its driver side when deputies arrived on the scene. Due to possible neck and back injuries, the driver was transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center. There was also a passenger in the truck that did not sustain severe injuries.
According to Joe McDermott, the deer program coordinator with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR), deer are roaming more during this time of year because of their mating season, or rut. Shorter days and cooler nights that come with the season put deer on the move. There were nearly 100 deer related accidents reported in Christian County in 2023.
