HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The University Heights Academy Blazers traveled to Christian County High School for a district matchup with the Colonels. The game was a pitchers’ duel early on, but the bats heated up late, and two runs during the final inning ended up being the difference in a 7-6 Blazer win.

Both pitchers kept the scoreboard clean through three and a half innings. Between Gage Montez for CCHS and Joshua Pace for UHA, offense was hard to find. However, Christian County broke through in the bottom of the fourth, scratching two across, and then four more in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead.

Christian County head coach Cole Isom was proud of how his team battled throughout the night.

“We swung it really well,” said Isom. “Gage gave us a great effort on the mound, he set the tone. We executed well, we just let it get away from us.”

After the bottom of the fifth, the Blazers commenced their comeback. Behind two hits each from Courtland Gipson and Pace, UHA was down 5-6 with runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the seventh. A Blazer hit a ground ball to the shortstop, but the throw went over the first baseman’s head, and two runs would score for them to take the lead. Reliever Jaiden Miles would come in and shut the door for the last two innings, striking out two, and UHA would win, 7-6.

Blazer head coach Chris Hamby said it was just a great team win.

“I don’t want to single anyone out tonight,” said Hamby. “I thought our team did a great job of staying with it and fighting, and that was just a great team effort and a great team win.”
