HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A variety of factors including holiday social gatherings allow illnesses to spread quickly this time of year, according to the Christian County Health Department. COVID-19 numbers in the area are not as easy to track as they used to be with home testing being readily available.
“Most individuals who are testing positive for COVID-19 are utilizing at-home rapid test kits, rapid tests that are not reportable to CCHD, therefore that data is not included in any statistics for COVID-19 cases,” said Cloie Rager with the Christian County Health Department. “Because of this, it is difficult to paint an accurate picture of the current situation for COVID-19 here in Christian County.”
Those who find themselves testing positive can use the COVID-19 calculator on the Christian County Health Department website. They recommend a five-day isolation in general, but if the date of your symptoms is entered into the site, it gives you the exact number of days to isolate and wear a mask.
“We encourage the community to stay up to date on necessary COVID-19 and flu vaccinations,” said Rager. “Utilize our free at-home COVID-19 test kits, and stay home when sick to prevent the spread of all illnesses, not just COVID-19!”
The Health Department continues to offer walk in flu vaccines daily, and COVID-19 vaccines when they are in stock again. Free at home test kits can also be picked up during business hours.
