HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – At the upcoming Hopkinsville City Council meeting, a vote will be held to select a new councilmember from a small pool of local candidates. Seth Meek resigned from the city council seat on March 17 to relocate, giving the city 30 days to find a replacement.

A news release from the City of Hopkinsville says they received four applications to fill the Ward 8 vacancy. These individuals will attend the city council meeting on April 7 and will be permitted to briefly speak about their interest in the position. They may then face questions from councilmembers.

The applicants are:

  • Kathy Detraz
  • Robert Meek
  • Steven Mitchell
  • Tiffany Pittman

Republican Stephen Crisp and Democrat Tiffany Pittman are both registered candidates for Ward 8 in the November election. The outcome of the application process does not impact the election.

During the meeting, councilmembers will publicly vote on who they believe the best applicant will be, and that person will immediately be sworn into office and will take the Ward 8 seat for the rest of the duration of the meeting and all meeting moving forward for the remaining term.

Councilmembers had the chance to review applications and experience prior to the meeting.
