HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The City of Hopkinsville has begun accepting proposals from contractors for demolition of the 80-year-old Walnut Street Stadium.
The Walnut Street lot that the stadium shares with the Boys & Girls Club of Hopkinsville was the original site for Hopkinsville High School in 1912. The stadium was built in 1936 as Tiger Football Stadium.
Terrance Davis, director of the Boys & Girls Club, says demolition would allow the club to continue to grow in the future.
“The stadium’s footprint will allow us to build a new building for our elementary school Club members. Our current building will become a Teen Center with space to separate middle school from high school,” said Davis.
Currently, the stadium bleachers are blocked off, and the entrance is overrun with plants, but the multi-purpose field gets used frequently by the surrounding neighborhood.
The deadline for bids is Dec. 12.
