OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – This weekend, officers attempted to stop a stolen vehicle, which resulted in a pursuit and foot chase. A wanted man out of Tennessee was arrested and charged with several felony offenses.
At approximately 8:16 p.m. on June 21, officers with the Oak Grove Police Department received a report of a stolen vehicle observed near the Pilot gas station on Pembroke Oak Grove Road. According to a news release from Oak Grove PD, the vehicle was allegedly being driven by 33-year-old Samuel Barnes of Ashland City, Tennessee.
Barnes had several outstanding warrants in the state of Tennessee, including felon in possession of a firearm and burglary, among others.
When the traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle fled the scene. Soon after, the vehicle became disabled, and the suspect began to run on foot before being apprehended by officers. Once in custody, Barnes provided police with false information regarding his identity, said the news release. He has been lodged in the Christian County Jail as a fugitive from justice and charged with the following offenses:
- Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
- Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree (On Foot)
- Receiving Stolen Property valued at $10,000 or more
- Giving Officers False Identifying Information
- Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
The suspect will face these charges in the Christian County Court system before being extradited to Tennessee for his outstanding warrants.
