HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Bryan Street in Hopkinsville has undergone a landscaping makeover, now adorned with plants, vibrant flowers, and neatly trimmed lawns courtesy of a group of volunteers rallied by Hopkinsville City Council Member Jamie Lienberger. As homes continue to be transformed, the ongoing effort kicked off with a big cleanup on June 22.
“I came up with the Bloom Up Bryan Street, and the idea behind the planters for the folks on the street. Regardless of home ownership or not,” explained Lienberger. “People in my ward, ward 9, need to know one person cares about them. One person cares enough to change their outlook, their world, their day. I want to be that person.”
During Bloom up on Bryan Street, volunteers mowed six yards, planted over 100 plants, collected 15 bags of trash, and filled 25 planters among other things. She continued to say she was thankful for the caring people that dedicated time to help, including council member Natasha Francis, Betty Catlett, Linda Wood, Ardell Owen, and Micheal and Alice Merrit.
Weeks after the big clean up, Lienberger received a call from another resident on Bryan Street that was inspired to continue the efforts but couldn’t find anyone willing to help. So, she immediately began to gather necessary materials and will be putting in more work this week.
She is hopeful that this will inspire others to do the same in their neighborhood, continuing to say, “I hope that more people see that being the change is good. Doing good is easy.”
