HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – There are many events to choose from this weekend around Christian County and Hopkinsville. Catch them all during a Pokémon party at the library, meet local and visiting authors, watch local youth fly down the track at the Soap Box Derby, or celebrate the Kentucky Derby with a watch party.
Pokémon Party: Help the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library count down the days until their Summer Reading Program Kick Off Party! Visit the library to hunt for all your favorite Pokémon among the stacks during our Pokémon Party, 5-6 p.m. May 2 at HCCPL. Take part in the scavenger hunt, create your own Pokeball to take home and check out some of Pokémon books!
Costumes are encouraged! Feel free to bring your cards to show off to staff.
Booking Signing: Blush and Bashful in Hopkinsville is hosting author Taylor James for a book signing on May 3 from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. Taylor will be signing copies of her latest sports romance and contemporary romance books, featuring a great second chance trope. Don’t miss out on the chance to meet the author and get your books signed!
Local Author Round Up: Come meet some of the area’s local authors at the Book and Bottle Shop on May 3, and pick up a signed copy for your home library. With 5 local authors in a variety of genres and age ranges, there is sure to be something for everyone. Each author will give a short reading from their books and speak on their experience of publishing. Readings and discussion will take place at 12:00 p.m.
19th Annual Soap Box Derby: Young racers are getting ready for the 19th Annual Soap Box Derby, a fun, fast paced family event that continually attracts community support. On May 3 at Ruff Park in Hopkinsville, racers will arrive, ready for their chance to qualify for the International Soap Box Derby in July.
Oak Grove Racing Derby Party: Celebrate the 151st Kentucky Derby in style with a Derby viewing party at Oak Grove Racing, Gaming, and Casino on May 3 at 1 p.m.! Each ticket comes with access to a delicious festive buffet. Test styling abilities in a Derby Hat contest with a Free Play prize. Derby Merchandise included with purchase.
The Finish Line: Join Casey Jones Distillery on May 3 for a free, full-day celebration of The Finish Line—their newest limited release of finished bourbons. Taste all three expressions, enjoy handcrafted cocktails, catch the Derby on the big screen, and stick around for live music and local food.
