HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – There are so many fun things to check out this weekend around Hopkinsville. Lots of food trucks and a museum event will celebrate the 8th of August, a downtown bookstore is transforming into a lounge, head over to a farm for a splash day, and more events.
5th Annual 8th of August Emancipation Celebration
- Where: Pennyroyal Area Museum
- When: Aug. 8 from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Details: A celebration of freedom as the museum pays tribute to African American history. During the free event, people can learn more about Emancipation and local history while enjoying historical presentations, activities, and more.
- Where: Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville
- When: Aug. 8 at 5 p.m. and Aug. 9 at noon.
- Cost: FREE
- Details: Organized by Hopkinsville’s Vansauwa’s Tacos & Vegan Eats, 20 food vendors from around Kentucky and Tennessee will be lined up alongside live music and entertainment, with a focus on black owned businesses in honor of the 8th of August.
- Where: The Book and Bottle Shop
- When: Aug. 8 at 6 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Details: Guests over the age of 16 can attend in smart casual clothing to attend a lounge-style evening at the Book and Bottle Shop. There will be candlelight, live classical piano, and a calming atmosphere.
Downtown Hopkinsville Farmers Market
- Where: Founders Square in downtown Hopkinsville
- When: Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- Cost: FREE
- Details: This monthly Saturday market features locally grown produce, fresh cut flowers, proteins, baked goods, bourbon and spirits, and more handcrafted items.
- Where: Christian Way Farm & Mini Golf
- When: Aug.9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Cost: Regular price of admission.
- Details: In addition to the regular fun activities at this Hopkinsville farm, they will have a giant water slide on site along with bubble stations, kiddie pools, and more water fun for kids of all ages.
Siri Pielski Book Signing
- Where: Blush & Bashful Romance Bookshop
- When: Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Cost: Free or cost of book.
- Details: Author Siri Pielski will be at the store saying hello and signing books. Her romance books Empathy and Compassion will be available for purchase while supplies last
- Where: Outdoor Amphitheater by the Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library.
- When: Aug. 9 at 9 a.m.
- Cost: Free with registration required.
- Details: This is an outdoor experience for teens ages 13-17 featuring a guided hike along the Hopkinsville Greenway and a nature scavenger hunt. Participants can register online.
