William Edwards Carson, 93, of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, formerly of Danville, Virginia died at 5:55 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.

Services will be held at a later date in Danville, VA. Dogwood Funerals and Cremations of Hopkinsville, KY will be assisting with arrangements.

A native of Danville, VA he was born on July 31, 1930 the son of the late Joseph Edwin Carson and Elinor Carson. He graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute with a master’s degree in nuclear engineering in 1959 and held a lifelong occupation as a nuclear physicist. He also held memberships in the American Nuclear Society, Sigma Xi, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He received honor and awards both from Life Fellow and the American Biographical Institute Research Association. He was also a contributor of several technical articles and publications.

His community activities includes being the chairman of the Young Republican Federation of Virginia, the president of the Lynchburg Young Republicans Club, chairman of the Young Republicans 6th Congressional District of Virginia, and the vice chairman of the Lynchburg City Republican Committee. He was a member of the Moseley Memorial United Methodist Church until it closed in 2019.

He was preceded in death by his sons, William Edwards Carson, Jr and Paul Andrew Carson; his brother, Joseph Edwin Carson, Jr, and his sister, Olga Jane Carson Floyd.

Survivors include his son, John Edwin (Diana) Carson of Holiday, FL; his daughter, Kathi Reed of Hopkinsville, KY; his grandchildren: Jeremy (Andrea) Reed, Jennifer Coogle, Jacqueline Reed, James Reed, and Jessica Carson; as well as four great grandchildren.
