HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A one-year-old was rushed to Jennie Stuart Medical Center on Dec. 9 after overdosing on suspected fentanyl. Officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department first made contact with emergency room staff who said the child was given Narcan and was responsive but still in critical condition.
According to a police report, the woman who brought the child in told officers she was at her friend’s house doing laundry while the child was in the kitchen sink taking a bath with her friend. The woman said she came into the kitchen to find her friend passed out by the sink with a piece of foil burning. She found the child’s eyes rolled back into her head and gasping for breath and she was brought to the hospital.
Following an investigation of the residence, police found fentanyl wrapped in foil burning in the trash can, along with meth in a bedroom, and several suboxone strips. The woman was arrested and charged with first degree criminal abuse, drug paraphernalia, possession, and wanton endangerment.
