HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – A 31-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday morning after police found her hitting her dog in public and finding marijuana in vehicle.

A Hopkinsville Police Officer at the Christian County Justice Center in Hopkinsville heard a dog yelping in the parking lot and found the suspect next to a van yelling at a dog in the back seat. After approaching, the suspect told the officer she was beating her dog with a belt because it was eating its feces in the car, according to a police report from HPD.

The officer saw a clear bag with marijuana in plain view inside the van and conducted a search of the vehicle. Glass smoking pipes and a scale were also found. The police report noted that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of a substance as well. She was arrested and taken to the Christian County Jail, and is being charged with cruelty to animals, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication of a controlled substance.
