HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – On Monday, a Hopkinsville woman was severely injured when her car was hit by a train on East 7th Street.
According to reports, the woman’s vehicle approached the railroad crossing as the flashing lights and bells were activated to indicate a train was coming. The front of her vehicle slid onto the tracks in the path of the train, where her car was hit.
When Hopkinsville Police arrived, the woman was conscious but in shock. The front airbag was deployed and the woman was able to identify herself and claim she was Door Dashing.
Police said engineers from the train, which belonged to CSX, said the train was traveling at 25 mph and they did not notice the car until it was struck. A witness said it appeared the woman was trying to stop her car, but slid onto the tracks due to the snow and ice.
The driver was taken to Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville for her injuries and the vehicle sustained severe damage.
