HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The public art scene in downtown Hopkinsville is continuing to expand as this year’s Pennyroyal Arts Council Mural Arts Camp unveils their newest project.

The new mural was painted by local youth on the side of Hudson’s Antique Depot & More on East Ninth Street. The vibrant piece of art channels Kentucky charm and elements that make this state unique, including the state bird. The camp was open to aspiring artists from fifth to twelfth grade.

“Together, the bold colors, natural elements, and local symbolism create a cheerful piece of public art designed to brighten the streetscape, celebrate Kentucky pride, and inspire community connection,” said a news release from the Pennyroyal Arts Council.

12 camp members and art enthusiasts were led by local art educator Paula Gieseke, taking a hands on part in every aspect of the process from the initial design to the final brushstrokes. The annual camp held in both summer and fall by the Pennyroyal Arts Council has facilitated multiple beautiful public art pieces downtown over the years. This includes the Welcome to Hopkinsville mural, a UFO themed mural by the museum, and jazz inspired murals on the Alhambra along with many others.

The mural participants included Gracie Mae Bryant, Paisley Turner, Elliot Ferguson, Bostyn Russell, Emily Shown, Lauren Shown, Kaydin Nolte, Millie Castille, Lacy Thompson, Henry Brashears, Juliana Rivera, & Aubrey Mounts. Cheyenne Peterson assisted Paula Gieske during the camp.
