OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – This week, the Special Economic Development Committee in Oak Grove convened to discuss potential businesses for the city, including the addition of a Starbucks.
During the meeting, Public Works Director Brian Ahart presented property plans specifically tailored for a Starbucks establishment with plans proposing its construction next to the Taco Bell on Claire Avenue. “Nothing is official until property changes hands, or I get paperwork on building contracts,” Ahart said. He further discussed that construction for the potential franchise would begin later this year with an opening date next year.

In hopes to get more businesses to Oak Grove, Ahart told committee members he has written letters to places like Publix, Chipotle, In-N-Out Burger, Outback Steakhouse, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods, and Wingstop. He has yet to hear from any of these establishments.
“I would love to see a Publix here,” said committee member Jean Leavell. “They are clean and have a good reputation.” Committee member, Isaiah Spencer agreed with Leavell saying Oak Grove needs another grocery store besides Walmart.
Ahart also brought up an auto auction business slated for the intersection of Destiny Drive and Walter Garret Lane. Although work has not started yet, Ahart said the auto business will be closing on the property next week and construction will begin shortly after if all goes well with Tennessee Valley Authority.
Reassuring committee members, Ahart said the auto auction lot will not be a junk yard but a clean public place.
The members continued their discussion on the progress of Oak Grove, emphasizing the need for further expansion with new establishments. Leavell expressed her desire to introduce long-term accommodation options like hotels or upscale apartments.
Given the increasing population in neighboring areas like Clarksville and Nashville, there was a strong consensus among members regarding the importance of developing available land. They believed that attracting individuals to less densely populated regions would be appealing. Additionally, there was talk about enhancing the city’s cleanliness to generate more interest.
