CHRISTIAN COUNTY, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Thursday morning around 10:35 a.m., Hopkinsville Fire/EMS and Christian County deputies were called to the scene of a collision involving two tractor-trailers on I-24 at the 86-mile marker in the westbound lanes. When the crash occurred, a tractor-trailer collided with the back of another tractor-trailer.
One of the drivers, an adult male, sustained significant injuries during the crash. CCSO says the cab of one of the trucks was pushed off the frame, and the driver was ejected. The man was airlifted to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, according to a news release from HFD. The driver’s condition is currently listed as critical. The other driver was not injured.
Emergency crews and KYTC have alerted that the roadway is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time due to an ongoing investigation of the scene, vehicle recovery, and cleanup operations. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes while they work to reopen the interstate.
“This stretch of Interstate 24 continues to be the scene of serious traffic crashes. We encourage all motorists to slow down, eliminate distractions, maintain a safe following distance, and remain vigilant while traveling through the area,” said a statement from HFD.
Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department, and Christian County Rescue also assisted during the crash.
