HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The fourth annual Taste of the Town is returning to Hopkinsville on Saturday, Aug. 10. From noon until 4 p.m.
Food and dessert vendors will line East Fifth Street in downtown Hopkinsville in honor of the Eighth of August Emancipation Day, the day enslaved people in Kentucky got the news that the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed and they were free. Since 2021, local food truck Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats has partnered with the Hopkinsville Brewing Co., to bring Taste of the Town, an event highlighting black-owned food and dessert vendors in the area.
“We are excited to see the growth of this event each year, and we look forward to the community from Kentucky to Tennessee to come celebrate Eighth of August holiday with good food and music,” said Zirconia Vansauwa, co-owner of Vansauwa’s Tacos and Vegan Eats.
Participants can expect Caribbean-inspired cuisine and food vendors serving everything from barbecue, to loaded fries, Philly cheesesteaks, vegan food, burgers, fried chicken, and so much more. Guests are encouraged to bring a lawn chair to sit on the patio or greenspace outside the brewery to enjoy their food.
This year, DJ Buddafly will perform along with a variety of live music performances. “We are adding a soulful-line dancing hour to the event led by Xtreme HipHop with Lanora,” said Vansauwa. “We did that at our re-opening block party back in April and it was a hit!”
