HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The Pennyroyal Arts Council is making Shakespeare fun, and accessible to the Hopkinsville community with a beautiful night of Shakespeare in the park. Romeo and Juliet will be brought to life by Kentucky Shakespeare on Sept. 18t.
Along with the performance, the Kentucky Shakespeare group will be visiting Christian County High School and Hopkinsville High school to conduct Hip-Hop Shakespeare workshops during their English classes. This acting group is based out of Louisville and offers educational opportunities and public performances statewide. They will be working with students Sept. 18 and Sept. 19.
While Kentucky Shakespeare has worked many times with local high schools in the past, this is only the second time the Pennyroyal Arts Council has offered a free public performance.
The group describes what audiences can expect from the performance, “Our two-actor version of Shakespeare’s timeless story of the star-crossed Romeo and Juliet focuses on the importance of communication, healthy relationships, and making good choices. Great fun with audience interaction and participation, this family friendly show includes puppetry, in-depth Q&A about the themes of the play, and opportunities to make learning fun!”
The free performance will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Round Table Literary Park at Hopkinsville Community College on Monday. For more information about this event, visit the Pennyroyal Arts Council website.
