OAK GROVE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – Sept. 21 and 22 was a special weekend in Oak Grove, Kentucky as the city celebrated its 50th anniversary. The festivities were highlighted by a historical bus tour on Saturday, followed by a dinner attended by close to 200 guests at Valor Hall.

The guest speaker for the dinner was Colonel Christopher Midberry, Garrison Commander at Fort Campbell. Colonel Midberry shared the legendary history of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) with those attending and spoke about the strong relationship between Oak Grove and Fort Campbell.

All eight of Oak Grove’s past mayors attended the dinner and were recognized for their years of service to the city. Former mayors in order of their time in office were Jack Elliott, Bobby Mace, Jean Leavell, Colleen Ochs, Dan Potter, Bea Burt, Theresa Jarvis and current Mayor Jackie Oliver.

“I am so excited that I am the mayor for this celebration. I guess it was earlier last year that I realized the city was turning 50 and I said we’re going to need to have a big bash for this. We invited all the mayors, all the ex-council members and invited all of our citizens to get together and have a great time,” Oliver said.

The celebration wrapped up on Sunday with a community picnic at the Walter Garrett Walking Trail Park with refreshments provided by Griller’s Choice and Fort Care, and the burial of a time capsule at the Oak Grove Community Center on Thompsonville Lane.
