HOPKINSVILLE, KY – The Hopkinsville Christian County YMCA is excited to announce the launch of its Fellowship and Enrichment Program, designed to provide free tutoring and academic support to 25 vulnerable students in Christian County. Open to youth ages 12 to 18, this program seeks to remove financial barriers and help students achieve academic success. The YMCA is offering the program through an Open Doors Scholarship, available to eligible students based on financial need and academic challenges.
As part of the YMCA’s commitment to youth development, the Fellowship and Enrichment Program focuses on providing vital educational support to students in need. Tutors, along with dedicated volunteer mentors, work closely with students to guide them through challenging subjects, offering individualized assistance and encouragement. Volunteers also serve as positive role models, sharing career advice and personal experiences to inspire the students they work with. All volunteers receive training aligned with the YMCA’s Mission and Values to ensure they foster a supportive and respectful learning environment.
“Every student deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of their financial situation,” said Sheryl Ellis, CEO of the Hopkinsville Christian County YMCA. “We are proud to offer this program, which not only helps students academically but also provides them with a space where they can feel supported, encouraged, and valued.”
The program provides four days of tutoring each week, with support in all academic subjects. In addition to homework help, students receive a nutritious meal at each session, ensuring that both their minds and bodies are nourished. Each participant also receives a teen membership to the YMCA, granting them access to the Teen Center, gymnasium, and fitness equipment.
To apply for the Fellowship and Enrichment Program, students and families must complete the application process and demonstrate a commitment to attending weekly sessions. Applications can be downloaded here, and returned in person to the YMCA Welcome Center or emailed to marilyn@hopkinsvilleymca.org.
