HOPKINSVILLE, KY (CHRISTIAN COUNTY NOW) – The National Weather Service for Paducah announced their Fall Severe Weather Safety Awareness Week campaign. This NWS station covers Christian County and surrounding areas. From Sept. 25 through Sept 29, they have a goal of educating the community about severe weather during the change of season.

“This is an opportunity to increase awareness and promote preparedness of severe weather hazards during the fall season and also to generate an increase in the level of response to watches and warnings,” says the NWS team.

They will kick off this campaign with daily posts on their social media pages that each focus on a different topic, including stocking up on emergency supplies, facts about tornadoes, and the importance of having a safe place to shelter in your home.

The NWS said fall is a time for strong, fast-moving tornadoes for this area. And darker skies in the evening mean it is even harder to spot storms when they come.
